Christmas Cards Past and Future

Amongst the flood of Christmas cards I received in the run up to the festive season – I’m a very popular sort of a person - two stood out from the rest. The first card was sent by IP3 member, Bernard Seward, and the second, by commercial printers, Optichrome in Woking, Surrey. The two cards could not have been more different but they both achieved their purpose – to raise a smile.

In terms of the technology utilised, the two cards sat at either end of the printing time line. Bernard’s was printed using the craft of letterpress invented by Johan Gutenburg in around 1440 and Optichrome’s utilised state of the art variable data management software and a digital press.
