THE MOVE FROM LITHO TO DIGITAL
The past and the present
Most print market watchers would agree that colour digital printing first
came on to the scene as a viable option against litho at IPEX 1993 when Xeikon
and Indigo launched their colour engines in a fanfare of high expectations.
Whilst some early adopters did succeed against litho in the section of the
market that is less demanding in respect of quality, those trying to compete
with litho in the quality sector quickly ran into problems.
It has taken a long time to develop colour digital print engines that can
compare with litho when quality is a defining factor, but in 2006 that day
is now here.
