Watford Branch visit to NewsPrinters Broxbourne
Friday February 12th 2010 at 09.15.
NewsPrinters Broxbourne Ltd
Great Cambridge Road
Waltham Cross
Hertfordshire
EN8 8DY
Please note this visit was originally scheduled for Tuesday 6th October 2009 but due to the closure of The London Paper it has been rescheduled to 12 February 2010.
Here is your opportunity to visit the flagship of the three News International owned print operations in the UK; even, (in the words of that famous lager advertisement), probably the largest newspaper plant in the world!
The plant at Eurocentral near Glasgow operates two presses; that at Knowsley, close to Liverpool, operates five machines. Broxbourne has 12, six on either side of a central aisle and arranged as mirrored presses serving a single folder. The building, opened just three years after planning permission was sought, runs 240 metres from end to end and sits like a giant ship docked into the constantly flowing stream of the M25. It can produce in the region of 3.2 million newspapers each night.
Numbers will be strictly limited so please let Paul Foster know as soon as possible, but no later than Friday September 18th, if you would like to attend.
Contact: Paul Foster for further details and for arrangements on the day.

Report on the Watford Branch Winter Social 2010
4th Internation Conference on Typography and Visual Communication
17 - 19 June 2010
Nicosia, Cyprus
4th ICTVC / CALL for PAPERS
On 17, 18 & 19 June 2010 the Department of Design & Multimedia of the
University of Nicosia will be hosting the 4th International Conference
on Typography and Visual Communication (ICTVC) with the general theme
“Lending Grace to Language”.
After three important and successful international meetings (2002,
2004, 2007 / http://www.ictvc.org/) ICTVC moves to Cyprus. The multicultural character of the island makes Cyprus a perfect location for a conference that explores the world of typographic design and visual language.
The Organising Committee members invite you to contribute your proposals for a presentation or panel discussion for inclusion in the programme of the 4th ICTVC. Abstracts of no more than 200 words and a short bio of 70-100 words, either in Greek or English, should be submitted by 10 January 2010. Conference presentations should be up to 30 minutes.
This time ICTVC is organized in collaboration with the Mass Media and Communication Institute (IMME), Cyprus, and AlterVision, Greece, and is supported by the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading (UK), the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI), the Institute of Paper, Printing & Publishing (IP3, UK), the Greek Graphic Designers Association (EGE) and the Thessaloniki Design Museum. ICTVC is endorsed by the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (ICOGRADA).
